Trauma & EMDR Therapy

Evidence-based healing for past experiences that still impact you today

What is EMDR?

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a powerful, evidence-based therapy that helps your brain process traumatic memories and experiences in a way that reduces their emotional impact. Unlike traditional talk therapy, EMDR uses bilateral stimulation (typically eye movements) to help your brain reprocess difficult memories naturally.

EMDR is recognized by: The American Psychological Association, the World Health Organization, and the Department of Veterans Affairs as an effective treatment for trauma and PTSD.

Types of Trauma I Work With

Difficult or traumatic birth experiences, medical complications, emergency C-sections, NICU stays, or feeling unheard during labor and delivery.

Adverse childhood experiences, neglect, abuse, or growing up in an unstable or unsafe environment that continues to affect you as an adult.

Past abusive relationships, betrayal, abandonment, or attachment wounds that impact your current relationships and sense of safety.

Traumatic medical procedures, chronic illness, surgeries, or feeling helpless and out of control during medical experiences.

Multiple traumatic experiences over time, developmental trauma, or ongoing stress that has shaped your nervous system and worldview.

How EMDR Works

1

History Taking & Preparation

We'll discuss your history, identify target memories, and build coping resources to ensure you feel safe and grounded throughout the process.

2

Assessment

We identify specific memories to target and the negative beliefs associated with them, as well as the positive beliefs you'd like to develop.

3

Desensitization

Using bilateral stimulation (eye movements, taps, or sounds), we help your brain reprocess the traumatic memory, reducing its emotional charge.

4

Installation & Closure

We strengthen positive beliefs and ensure you leave each session feeling grounded and stable, with tools to manage any processing between sessions.

Signs You Might Benefit from EMDR

  • You have intrusive thoughts or flashbacks about past experiences
  • You avoid certain situations, places, or people because they trigger difficult memories
  • You feel stuck in patterns that don't serve you but can't seem to change them
  • Past experiences continue to affect your relationships, parenting, or daily life
  • You have negative beliefs about yourself that stem from past experiences
  • You've tried talk therapy but feel like you keep revisiting the same issues
  • Your body holds tension or reacts strongly to certain triggers

What to Expect from EMDR Therapy

EMDR is different from traditional talk therapy. You won't need to describe your trauma in detail or relive it repeatedly. Instead, we'll work with your brain's natural healing capacity to process memories in a way that feels manageable and safe.

Many people notice significant shifts after just a few sessions, though the timeline varies depending on the complexity of your experiences. Throughout the process, I'll be with you every step of the way, ensuring you feel supported and in control.

Ready to Begin Healing?

You don't have to carry the weight of past experiences alone. EMDR can help you process trauma and move forward with greater peace and freedom.
